Privacy Policy

Introduction

The Tool Hive ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use our website and services.

Information We Collect

We collect minimal information about you when you use our services:

  • Page views: Which page you visited, plus coarse browser and referrer metadata, through the privacy-focused analytics described below. We do not record what you do inside a tool.
  • Local storage: Your theme choice, your cookie-banner choice, and — for a few tools — the working state you asked them to remember. All of this is read and written by your browser and stays on your device.
  • Tool input: None. We never receive the text, code, images or files you use a tool on.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services
  • Understand how users interact with our tools
  • Detect and address technical issues
  • Develop new features and tools

Data Security

Tools on The Tool Hive process your input in your own browser. We operate no server that receives it — there is no upload step and no backend to store it. What you type, paste or open stays on your device.

A small number of tools are exceptions, because reaching an endpoint is the whole point of them. They are listed in full below.

Tools that make network requests

102 of our 107 tools make no external requests whatsoever. These 5 do. In every case the request goes directly from your browser to the host named — never via us, because we have no server in the path.

DNS Lookup

Contacts: cloudflare-dns.com, dns.google

Browsers expose no DNS API, so records are resolved through public DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers. The resolver sees the domain you look up.

Network Latency Tester

Contacts: The public endpoints you select (Cloudflare, Google, AWS, Azure, GitHub)

Measuring round-trip time requires an actual round trip. Only the endpoints you choose are contacted.

API Request Tester

Contacts: Whatever URL you enter

Sending your request is the purpose of the tool. Requests go straight from your browser to that host — they are not proxied through our server.

WebSocket Tester

Contacts: Whatever endpoint you enter

Opening the connection you specify is the purpose of the tool.

Image Metadata Viewer

Opt-in only

Contacts: openstreetmap.org

Only if you choose to show the map for a photo's embedded GPS coordinates. The image itself is never uploaded — it is read locally in your browser.

This is not a promise we ask you to take on trust. Our automated browser audit watches every request each tool route makes and fails if a tool outside this list contacts anything at all.

Data stored on your device

Some tools save your working state in your browser's local storage so it survives a reload. This never leaves your device, but it is stored unencrypted, so it is worth knowing about on a shared or public computer. Each of these tools gives you a way to clear its stored data.

  • API Request Tester: your request history, including any bearer token or basic-auth credentials you entered
  • Code Snippet Manager: the snippets you save
  • Git Command Generator: your recently built commands
  • Emoji & Unicode Search: your recent and favourite emoji, and skin-tone choice
  • Network Latency Tester: your measurement history

Analytics

Every page loads Plausible analytics from plausible.woodenamethyst.com.au. It records the page you visited plus coarse browser and referrer metadata. It does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and never receives anything you type into or generate with a tool.

It also records:

  • which tool you opened, by name and category, so the most-used tools can be identified
  • clicks on links that lead to another website
  • clicks on links that download a file, by file name

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including:

  • The right to access information we have about you
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to object to processing of your data
  • The right to data portability

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
